Lucca is an old city that was founded by the Romans in the second century BC. The skyline is actually medieval and perfectly preserved within a massive and impenetrable walls.
Lucca is old but very vibrant: the streets and piazzas are full of shops, cafes and restaurants, and the buildings, which can be even 500 years old, as the walls themselves, are in good conditions and house apartments and offices.
The walls offer visitors the opportunity to explore the city center from a special viewpoint because from up there we can enjoy entrancing views over the old town on one side and wide open views over the surroundings. The perimeter of the walls is 4 km, equal to roughly 2 and ¼ miles and the perfect place to become familiar with the bicycle.
After our bicycle ride, we are ready to further explore the city center. An opportunity to see the main highlights close-up as well as hidden corners and sites that most visitors don’t get to see.
